All STEADFAST Mass walls have an internal structural wall and an external 65mm concrete wall, sandwich between these two walls is rigid insulation.
- High thermal mass
- Ideal for dwellings with upper levels
- Massive insulation
- Plaster finish on the inside wall or direct fixed
- Steel lintels not required
- Any cladding type
- All the benefits of concrete
- Cost effective
- Can be Compatible with SF floor systems
Mas 300 – 65mm concrete façade wall, 125 polystyrene, 110mm concrete structural wall, selected finishing:
R Value = 3.46
Mass 400 – 65mm concrete façade wall, 225 polystyrene, 110mm concrete structural wall, selected finishing:
R Value = 6.31
Note- Due to the fact the Mass wall has effective thermal mass, the R Value requirement is only R-1 (compared to R-2 for timber frame equivalent). The Mass 300 is more than 300% efficient.
Frequently asked questions
How do I hang a picture?
The great thing about an internal concrete wall is that you can hang a picture or fit a shelf anywhere like and not have to find a stud. Most handy man drills have a concrete function, simply drill the hole, insert plastic toggle and fit screw.
What thickness is the insulation?
The minimum insulation is 125mm, but this can increase to any thickness.
How is the inside finished?
Steadfast has variety of plaster finishes perfect for the Mass wall, from glass smooth to sponge, alternatively direct fixed plaster board can be used.
How is the outside finished?
The outside of the Mass wall is generally plastered and painted. There are a variety of textures, coats and colours to choice from. Due to concretes limit thermal expansion darker colours are possible.
How are electrical and plumbing installed?
These are installed before concrete placement. Wire is installed within PVC conduits, this not only protects the wire but allow additional room for any future electrical needs.
How important is thermal mass?
How do you explain to someone what chocolate taste like if they have never tasted it. Thermal mass is fantastic, it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter, saves a fortune on energy bills and the air just feels better, fresh and more natural. Once you’ve tasted it you will never live in anything else again.
